Our son, Charlie Hill, who plays trumpet in BU's Scarlet Band called us Saturday night from Fenway's Visitor's Clubhouse totally pumped to play for the Aerosmith/J. Geils Band concert. He was excited to be in Fenway, in the same room visiting baseball teams occupy (Charlie loves baseball). He was thrilled he'd met The J. Geils Band and had an all stage pass and ticket to the show in his pocket. But most of all, he was "wowed" to soon be performing at this highly anticipated, high profile event and in front of so many people. This evening of hometown boys entertaining the hometown crowd--Aerosmith and The J. Geils Band both hail from the Boston area--had Fenway sold out and ready to rock!
Clad in brand new red and white marching uniforms, the Scarlet Band--formed in 2006 to play at summer freshman orientations--took center stage and performed Centerfold to over 30,000 people! They moved and grooved with red hats bobbing, brass bells flashing and full sound resounding. As the final high note reverberated through the stadium, the applause of Bostonian concert goers--looking for a rock and roll band--was generous and warm. Scarlet Band was lifted, they'd just had the performance of a lifetime, they'd just made a memory they'll never forget.
Stepping offstage, SB made way for J. Geils, who greeted the crowd singing Centerfold. The night was underway...and what a night it was! The Scarlet Band shone bright and represented BU well--thanks players!!
Someone in high places, who loves SB and their rendition of Centerfold, managed to make this happen. I haven't heard who...is it you? Thank you, you provided the thrill of a lifetime for these students! You also made many parents proud to say their college student goes to BU!
